The best cities for a romantic getaway in Portugal
Destinations and programmes for two
29/01/2025
Portugal is a country full of romantic destinations, perfect for a getaway or a weekend with your better-half. Check out our tips, from Lisbon to Porto.
A well-deserved break that has everything to be just perfect. From destinations to programmes, the options are infinite. How about a picnic in the park? In Lisbon you can enjoy the more central Parque Eduardo VII and in Porto you have Parque da Cidade or Palácio de Cristal Gardens. A dinner by the river? In addition to Lisbon and Porto, the Douro Valley is also the perfect scenario!
By the river, in the park or along the streets of any one of these destinations, what about a bike ride? It's an excellent way to get to know a place, while getting lost in time and space, and enjoying the moment with your better-half.
Watching the sunset is a must on this tour, one of the most romantic times of the day! It's a quieter moment and the best opportunity to admire the beauty and serenity of these magical moments.
For those in search of something less conventional, you can always experience extreme activities where you're spending your holidays, and try something new. There are plenty of ideas: parachute jumping, climbing or slide. Look for an adventure!
Last, but not least, don't miss out on regional gastronomy. Ideally, you can book a restaurant with traditional food and panoramic views over the city or nature!
Follow our tips and have a lovely romantic stay!
Sintra
Sintra is the first place that comes to mind, whether for its wonderful palaces and enchanting gardens or the villages historical centre, which leaves nobody indifferent! Sintra served as inspiration for writers and musicians, who were indulged by its magic and splendour.
Porto
There arent many things as romantic as watching the sunset over the Douro river. Therefore, we suggest a boat ride or dinner at a restaurant with panoramic views over this breathtaking landscape.
Óbidos
It delights both local residents and visitors with its medieval aura. This is one of those places that seems to come right of a fairy tale, with its alleys, walls, castle, ginjinha in a chocolate cup and even the themed festivals, organised throughout the year.
Aveiro
This city is known as the Portuguese Venice because of the channels of Ria de Aveiro (lagoon). It is a city full of romantic places to visit with your better-half. We suggest a moliceiro (typical boat) ride, a walk in the citys park and a taste of soft eggs, which is the local traditional delicacy.
Douro Valley
Douro doesn't need an introduction, but don't miss out on a boat ride between Régua and Pinhão, or a train ride, which will take you on a tour through the river banks. Finish off by visiting one of the Port wine farms.
Lisbon
It's said that Lisbon inspires film-makers and photographers with its white light, which results from the immense reflection of the Tagus river. We suggest a walk or a dinner by the river, to enjoy a moment for two.Discover our hotels
