Check out our suggestions for spending 48h in Lisbon and start planning your trip now.
Located on the right bank of the Tagus river, near its mouth, Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world and the oldest city in Western Europe.
The strong presence of the river reflects a white light that is admired by everyone and is known for inspiring writers, poets, photographers and film-makers throughout its history.
Its historical centre is formed by seven hills, which you can explore on foot, tram or funicular.
Panteão Nacional

To start

After a complete breakfast, visit the Panteão Nacional (Santa Apolónia) and the Miradouro da Graça, a belvedere that has a coffee shop with fantastic views, from the Castle of S. Jorge to the Tagus river.
Terreiro do Paço

Have lunch and a walk in Baixa

And since it is lunch time, we suggest you go to a typical Portuguese restaurant, such as Floresta de Santana, for example. After lunch, go for a walk in Baixa and Cais do Sodré, going up to the Elevador de Santa Justa (lift) and|or to the Arco of Terreiro do Paço.
Bairro Alto

Sunset in Bairro Alto

For a snack, taste the toasts and natural fresh juices of Penta Café, and end the day watching the sunset in a Bairro Alto rooftop bar. Have dinner at Hamburgueria Gourmet Café do Rio, in Baixa, or at Casa do Bacalhau, in Beato.
Bairro Alto

Where to go in the evening?

Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré are the trendiest spots in the city, the meeting point not only for the locals but also for those visiting the city. The usual is to stay out in the street chatting. If you want to go inside and find a seat, there are bars for everyone, you just need to explore!
Torre de Belém

Go to Belém

The next day, visit the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB), the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Tower. After lunch, go for a walk in the gardens and don't forget to taste the famous pastéis de Belém (custard tarts) with a single, black, Portuguese style coffee.
Alfama

End your day in Alfama

After Belém, go to Alfama to enjoy the views on the evening and have dinner in a typical Casa de Fados (Sr. Fado de Alfama, Parreirinha de Alfama or Pateo de Alfama).
