Located on the right bank of the Tagus river, near its mouth, Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world and the oldest city in Western Europe. Its historical centre is formed by seven hills, which you can explore on foot, by the tram or by the funicular. One of the advantages of the Portuguese capital is the Mediterranean climate, making it easier and more pleasant to visit during the whole year.

Avenida da Liberdade, Rua Augusta and Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau

Walk down Avenida da Liberdade and Rua Augusta and indulge in the famous codfish croquettes of Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau.

Tram 12, Castle of S. Jorge, Alfama, lookouts

Catch the tram 12 at Praça da Figueira and go up to the Castle of S. Jorge. Explore the district of Alfama on foot, stopping at the lookouts of Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol. You can visit Museu do Fado and end the day having dinner at Cais do Sodré.

Sintra

Catch the train at Rossio station and head for Sintra! Start by exploring Palácio da Pena, Castelo dos Mouros and Quinta da Regaleira. Don't forget to buy the famous queijadinhas so you can eat them on your return journey.

Praça do Comércio, tram 15, Belém!

Head down to Praça do Comércio, catch tram 15 and exit at Belém station. Visit the Monastery of Jerónimos, eat a pastel de Belém, have a picnic in the gardens and explore the Museu Coleção Berardo. To finish your day, rent a sitgo and enjoy a ride near Torre de Belém and Padrão dos Descobrimentos.
