It depends on your itinerary. In major cities (Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga), it is not necessary. To explore regions such as Algarve, Alentejo, Douro or the interior, renting a car offers greater freedom and comfort.

Yes, especially in historic city centres. However, many places have cobbled streets and uneven or inclined ground. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended.

Portugal is known for its diverse gastronomy. Highlights include cod (prepared in many ways), grilled sardines, francesinha (sandwich made with steak, ham and Portuguese sausage, covered with melted cheese and a spicy sauce), seafood rice, piglet da Bairrada, and Portuguese stew. For pastries, try pastéis de nata and the conventual sweets.
