Things to do in Porto

Attractions, travel itineraries and more!

Oporto is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with a historical centre classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Located on the northern bank of the Douro river, discovering this city is to find many surprises. Increasingly contemporary and creative, the city of Oporto has a rare beauty, which is fruit of its landscape, the harmony of its lines and its urban structure. As soon as you start your visit, you will discover the hospitality of its inhabitants, so characteristic in the North of the country, and you will feel this entire atmosphere in the streets, in the architecture, in the monuments and in the museums, as well as in its leisure spaces, in its terraces and in its commercial areas.

The walk to the nearest metro is about 5-10 mins (depending on whether you are dragging cases) and the metro service is pretty efficient. There is a shopping centre next door with a food court.

Port tasting

Porto offered great cod dishes and grilled sardines...most at very good prices. Taxis were not too expensive on the odd occasion we used them. The port tasting was fabulous, the Kopke house winning hands down (they even served some delicious chocolates!). We also enjoyed the Sandeman Tour with the Sandeman tour guide dressed in the cape and hat...added to the mystery! At some family-run restaurants, you may wait up to an hour and a half before your meal is served! Guimaràes was a quaint little town to explore.
